Hey everyone.
I think I am still semi known about the internets but should I have collected dust for too long, allow me to introduce myself once more. The name is Mark. I live in Japan as an American citizen and was formerly the host and creator of "Japan Now!". The shows initial intent was to give various amounts of information regarding Japan and to show case some of the more rare and unusal things I have found. It didn't connect with too many people but somewhere along the lines I ended up adding more and more comedy to it, brought in more visual cues and gave each of my segments a weekly.. then bi-weekly and then eventually before I stopped producing films a monthly schedule.
I had started out in September of 2008 and hit the ground running. By October I had developed a small fanbase and tried to create a name for myself. It was during that time that I ended up joining the BP crew as they had been friendly and supportive of my videos which helped as other communities were not so kind.
A lot happened but by December I had lost my steam and motivation to continue producing episodes. It was the pocky episode in particular where I first experienced the full onslaught of what the internet is fully capable of doing when it decides to attack something. With no particular goals with video making as I had lost my reasons along the way I decided it was not worth the hostility and insults and simply vanished.
Over the past 4 months I have received numerous letters and messages from those that had formerly supported me as a film maker and as a person that had come to know but something had always held me back from trying to create another film.
Sure World of WarCraft, my job and family, the new Xbox 360 and other distractions occupied a good amount of my time but it was mainly laziness that kept me from returning. With no effort or motivation, how can one spend a week on a video?
It wasn't until tonight that I stood up suddenly and walked over to my wife and said "Dear, I should make another video.". I have enjoyed making Japan Now! and basked in the relatively small glow it receives when first released but I think I want to go back to my original idea. The one thing I had planned to do but never actually produced. TVGS... some know what it stands for, others have forgotten or simply do not know. I will be creating a small pilot for TVGS this month and if I pick up more steam, I will try to pump out another Japan Now! as well as little mini videos of random crap I see or find in Tokyo.
It's a shame I did not have this revelation 2 weeks ago... you guys totally missed out on some beautiful Sakura trees.. ah well... there is always next year.
I cannot promise I will succeed with my videos or promise to constantly increase the value and enjoyment factor attempting to trump each episode with the next but I can offer my sincere hope that I do find the time and will to produce another video either by the end of April or the beginning of May. Wish me luck everyone.
